Coastal Training Technologies® announces the release of People-Based Safety™ – “The Next Evolution in Safety”
that goes beyond behavior-based safety and inspires workers to actively care about everyone’s safety.
People-Based Safety™ is research-based and focuses on four key skill areas – Acting, Coaching, Thinking and
Seeing (ACTS) – that are all critical to empowering employees to become accountable for their own safety. With
Acting, employees learn how to pinpoint critical actions to prevent injury, how to understand the reasons
behind their actions, and how to actively care about the actions they perform. Coaching includes observing
co-workers’ behavior to identify risks, analyzing their behavior to see why it’s occurring, and communicating
effectively to warn others of risk.
Thinking involves observing and monitoring inner dialogue, developing a safety mindset that promotes safe
behavior, preparing a mental checklist of critical safe actions, and using mental imagery to promote safe
actions. And with Seeing, employees learn how to recognize workplace traps that can blind them to hazards,
how to scan and focus for a wide angle view of the environment that makes them aware of danger; and how to
identify hazards through a series of risk factors.
